what this means I''m a fairly2009-04-28 00:00:00Can someone explain what this means. I'm a fairly new Priest, and haven't heard this term before today.
Basally, any amount of healing that puts the target above 100%. 100% is the max, so anything over that is wasted. Healing over the max isalled "overhealing", and is generally something you want to avoid. It shouldn't be as high on your priority as say, keeping people alive, but avoiding it will irease your mana effiey.
Have you been reading the big thread about overheal? Some useful info in amongst our QQs Generally though don't worry to mh. Overheal > Dead People.

I healed Naxx 10 with a Holy Priest and Resto Druid the other day and my overheal was higher than normal (I'm Di btw). After wahing the animations on trash I realised why. The resto druid was mainlyoentrating on himself and thehunk of dps but the Holy Priest washkingOH around on the groupontaining her, me and the tanks as well as healing the offtank. Fire/Arc raiding spec2009-04-07 00:00:00been tweaking this since I got to 80, as ive been levelling and heroic spamming with a 60/11/0 arcane spec, i was a fire/arc spec in Burning Crusade and always loved the DPS and more mana efficiency than arcane (which is an epic dps spec). So i was wondering if anyone had any CONSTRUCTIVE criticism for the build I've been working on. Oh, and if you just come on and say "go frostfire spec its imba" im just going to completely ignore you lolI am a fire mage myself and have been twinking different builds and I have come to realize that you really cant go down two trees without loosing something. Arcane Mage - DPS God2009-04-07 00:00:00In my opinion, the Arcane Mage is the true king of dps. Whether you agree or disagree, plz post your comments so that I might gauge my thinking. If there are enough responses, I will give my reason...Arcane by itself.....NO. Arcane and Fire combined....YES. Dps Kings they are. I have recently respecced my Mage to Fire/Arcane (PoM/Pyro)as to take advantage of Ignite and Incinerate. They add Dots as well as your 2500 to 3500 crits, sure an Arcane can get upwards of 6k, BUT, as my spec now, I need to let my tank get 12k threat before I can even attack. I love the DPS spec so much better. Hope that's what you were lookin' for.What I think the best the mage is a mix of all three.
Frist Arcane talents to lvl 50.
Do as such:
Arcane Focus, Magic Absorption, Arcane Concentration, Arcane Fortitude, Arcane Meditation, Improved Mana Shield, Improved Blink, Arcane Mind, Prismatic Cloak, Arcane Potency, Spell Power, Empowered Arcane Missiles, Mind Mastery, Slow.
Then ether Fire or Frost to lvl 60.
As such:
For Frost: Elemental Precision, Frost Warding, Frostbite, Improved Frost Nova.
For Fire: Impact, Flame Throwing, Improved Fire Blast.
And then the other to lvl 70. And once lvl 80 comes out, you'll have 10 mor...

With the new talents for the Mage, something absolutely wonderful occured. It is possible to spec into 60%% Mana Regen While Casting. The Arcane Talent: Arcane Meditation allows 30%% and the Fire Talent: Pyromaniac allows 30%%. Combined with Mage Armor for an additional 30%% gives you a total of 90%%. Fire vs. Frost DPS2009-04-07 00:00:00Clearly, fire has more dps. I'm considering going frost though for a number of reasons. Survivability, AOE, Water Elemental, and Less Threat are some of those reasons.
On the other hand, I love damage. My question is, how large is the gap between frost and fire DPS? i have been both frost & fire at lvl 70
i would say about 15%% more damage (per second) for fire
if you use scorch 5x probably a third more dps
fire criticals are a little higher but are a lot meaner due to ignite in terms of total damage
frost does more damage per second against frozen targets, does more damage per second with a water elemental and does more damage per second with icy veins, probably in all 3 cases more than a fire mage does but a fire mage can sustain more damage for a long time and likely overall do more damage
still do not underestimate the frost mageWhy would fire mages be able to take more damage?Icy vien is a very helpfull skill, i love it for when your get to boss you got a smaller amount of cast time so your cast out many many icebolt.
62 frost mage icy veins decreases your spell casting time by 20%% for a short time, good temporary boost, insignificant in the long run

mage raiding build2009-04-07 00:00:00wat is the best raiding build id say fire arcane and if u have enough mana and u are willing to buy pots, arcane wud be good too.I'm a great fire spec'd mage, look me up on Wowarmory.com(name is bloodrise, I'm an undead mage)And I only run out of mana when a raid boss mob is 20%%, even then I still have evocation, mana gems, and pots. Plus a trinket that increases pot's by 40%%. My dps is usually 2-3 dependant if their is someone who is more epic'd then I am. But I do insane amounts of dmg right now, and whats really crazy is I tend to never pull aggro. Maybe its my tanks doing they're jobs, but it works. I'd have to say fire/arc though, they tend to run out of mana fast, but also have crazy ass dps at the same time :)Fire Imo is still the best raiding spec. In my particular case i have gone for icy veins too. 2/48/11.
I respecced last night and found with my new spec that I had got rid of most of my AOE's (dragons breath,blastwave) So i am now focused soely on single target damage which is the most important thing to think about when raiding, with the rare exception downing a boss as quick as possible is your role within the raid.
40/0/21 is amazing!
people underestimate it but it is deadly in a raid....
